Hongu
Wilderness Trek expedition
Hongu
valley is the back yard of the Everest region. From Hongu
one will be able to get views of some impossible peaks of
Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and many minor ones with
in the region.
Hongu
basin is a river valley where Hongu river feeds a group of
lakes. A trek to Hongu is certainly a difficult journey and
can be termed off the beaten track in the true sense of it's
meaning. The journey will be at an elevation too high for
human habitation, there are no villages to define the trek
route, only certain mountain passes and valleys. Hongu area
offers one of the finest wilderness treks in Nepal where huts
and herds are rarely met on this route. There are several
approachable routes to the Hongu valley. It depends upon the
season and time of the year. One way to reach Hongu is via
Imja Khola valley east of Dongboche along Imja glacier and
foot of Karz leem. The route penetrates through ampha Labtsa
(5,700m) pass. An alternate route to enter Hongu without going
too high is viaKem Ba La (3,900m) which is approachable from
Lukla via the Sherpa village of Pang Kongma as well as from
Arun river which is more obscure and difficult to pass.
This
trek to Hongu is very difficult. We recommend that it should
be attempted by persons with mountaineering skills and previous
tough trek experience with full equipment We can make sufficient
time adjustment to provide an optional climb to mount Mera
(21,728 ft) which is not technically difficult but the altitude
makes it so.
